It could be for a man or women but it is nice and thick and soft. Wore it one day before I gave it to the friend I made it for and it sure was warm! Temperatures were in the 30′s yesterday with wind chills in the 20′s.

When I gave it to him and he put it on…he said he was going to have to turn on the air conditioning…(-:

Of course this is under fluorescent lighting which has a little yellowing effect.

With sequins and glitter

I have no deep earth shattering thoughts to share today. I know the holidays are over but my “knittin” projects have spilled over into January. Let’s see, I made my son a “camo” scarf…that was pretty cool, although I am probably the only one that thinks so.

Made this hot pink knit scarf with sprinkles of sequins and glitter throughout. Toasty warm and fashionable.

Leaves Are Brown, Sky Is Gray

I’m sure it’s already the New Year somewhere in the world soon, so in case I don’t make it till midnight here in Texas…Happy New Year!!!

Nature ushers in the New Year. “All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray.” But it’s not really just the two colors  on this day. It’s all kinds of different colors as the season ripens and sloughs off the old, preparing for the new. Whether it’s the beginning or the end of a season…it’s always about renewal.

The expensive route: Original artwork, quality Prismacolor pencils, inks, art markers, and sturdy bristol paper. 2-3 hours minimum to create. Mostly self satisfying work, not really lucrative…(-:

The cheap route: cheap printer, very little effort on my part, less amount of ink, cheaper paper, and more blank/air space.

So let’s recap. I read an article that says:

• A tuna companies tuna now comes in 5-ounce cans, as opposed to the traditional 6-ounce containers
• Some well know chip makers reduced the quantity of chips in their bags by 20 percent
• An orange juice brand recently dropped their orange juice carton size from 64 to 59 ounces
• Name brand saltine and graham crackers have new packaging with 15 percent fewer crackers

Despite all of these examples, I read that we don’t really think this is a case of manufacturers trying to make a fast buck on the consumer.

Historically, manufacturers have been raising and lowering package sizes in order to keep from raising prices for a long, long time. As far back as the early 1900′s.

Well, I’ll just have to buy two bags of pretzels for .99 cents each to get the satisfaction I used to get in one bag. One bag of pretzels is just a tease now, a full bag is a thing of the past. In fact a full bag may be a trend we never see again.

I wonder when they will start charging us for the air space in the bag…(-:

"Rudolph and Pengy"

Ahhh…Rudolph and Pengy. Poor Rudy looks like he has been taken advantage of. What patience! He’s even let Pengy pierce his ears and hang ornaments. Now that’s friendship!

Colored pencils, mixed media on bristol (sturdy like card stock but made for artwork). ACEO art cards are very collectible baseball sized art cards. I collect mine in albums, card boxes and they look great in miniature frames. They also are a great little extra gift to put in gift boxes or baskets.

I had a friend named Carolyn who had a double mastectomy and decided to have butterflies tattooed on her chest, in place of her breast. I always thought that was cool and wanted to do this little painting in memory of her. She was in remission for many years and then she lost her battle with cancer and passed away. In honor of Carolyn, remember her name for just one day. There are a lot of people who miss her still. She was a massage therapist and a teacher and she touched a lot of people. Please remember the name “Carolyn” just for today. Thanks.

"Acid Rain"

I’ve been fascinated with the Plague Doctors lately and the color shadings of Ombre that is popular in hair color and fashion this year.

Plague Doctors-In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, some doctors wore a beak-like mask which was filled with aromatic items. The masks were designed to protect them from putrid air, which in theory of the times, was seen as the cause of infection.  Being a plague doctor was unpleasant, dangerous, and difficult. Their chances of survival in times of a plague epidemic were slim. Plague Doctors were medical physicians hired by the community to treat those who had the bubonic plague. Since they were hired by the community they treated rich and poor.

Sometimes they were untrained or inexperienced physicians or surgeons that couldn’t get a practice elsewhere. I’m getting my info from Wikipedia which says one of them was a fruit seller before he became a Plague Doctor. Of course they only treated plague patients.

Ombre is graduating color from dark to light. I used browns, oranges, yellow and chartreuse. I think the chartreuse on the head and shoulders, gives it a really sickly color, like putrefying acid rain…(-:

Title: “Peeps Keeper”spirit, witch-(graphite, wash, and colored pencils). I’m not entirely sure where candy chicken peeps come from. Must be somewhere magical because they never age or decay, they just sit there being “peepy,” forever. I’m a little jealous.

I’m not sure if they even digest if you eat them, or if they just pass straight through your system, like gum…(-:

These two little hand colored art prints are adorable. One is done in blue and the other in green. Both are hand embellished with colored pencils, graphite and ink. Signed S. Key on the back and dated 2011. I think these hand colored art prints stand out and are more colorful than the original. Also shown with examples of how they would look matted and framed (mat and frame not included).
