For me the one of challenges of creating ACEO’s and ATC’s is trying to work in such a tiny space, yet making a small piece of art that stands out. It’s less of a challenge than when I first started. In my case it makes me focus on the details and how much can I cram in. I have seen some amazing artworks on these little cards. That always encourages me also. Normally the sell for $3.00 to $6.00 although there are artist that have built up a following and can command $10.00 on up. For those of you that aren’t familiar with them, they are tiny works of art that always measure a tiny (to me) 2.5″ x 3.5″. They fit nicely into plastic sleeves made for baseball trading cards. ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions, and Originals. Artist Trading Cards (or ATCs) are miniature works of art about the same size as modern baseball cards. The ATC movement developed out of the mail art movement and has its origins in Switzerland. Cards are produced in various media, including dry media (pencils, pens, markers, etc), wet media (watercolor, acrylic paints, etc), paper media (in the form of collage, papercuts, found objects, etc). The cards are usually traded or exchanged rather than sold.

More musings…
Well, I have been doing about 5 or more ACEO’s a week since late last year. I tell you it has really, really beefed up my drawing skills. I would show you one of my ACEO’s from early last year but it’s really kind of embarassing how lame they were compared to now. I know, I know, I will try to come up with the nerve to post them soon. After all it’s a good thing, because it shows I have made so much progress. It’s hard for an artist to put artwork out there from the past that they now consider to just be so, so compared to their current work.

I have been fascinated with the moon lately, and it has been showing up in most of my artwork. I want to thank my fans that follow my ACEO’s and other artwork as well. I love the compliments and appreciation shown for my work that I have been getting from buyers. Gives me warm and fuzzy feelings!!!

I have been doing a LOT of characters in costumes and/or hats such as Cat Woman, my Mouse Eared Girls, Toad Babies Series, etc. I love coming up with different ones to fit different themes. Don’t forget ACEO’s are always 2.5″ x 3.5″ whether it’s portrait or landscape view…(-;

Am still trying to understand this ACEO market… Is each one an original? Or do people make reproductions and sell those, too?
e.
Ed, ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions and Originals. There are some artist that sell prints, or prints they have retouched to add a personal touch. The average price for originals is $3.00 to $6.00. If an artist has a good following their ACEO might go for as much as $20.00 or more. I personally prefer selling originals and am very appreciative when someone is following my work. Sometimes you get attached to them and it’s hard to let go. I go through mini-mourning periods myself…lol.
